Lodore was one of the most celebrated of the Lake District falls, and Turner included distant views of it in his finished watercolours of Derwentwater, the work he executed for Joseph Farington in 1801,1 the England and Wales subject2 and the vignette for Rogers’s Poems (Tate D27698; Turner Bequest CCLXXX 181);3 see comments on folio 25 recto and 29 recto (D01021, D01084; Turner Bequest XXXV 19, 82).
