The bottom three sketches of cliffs are inverted relative to the foliation and are continued on folio 6 recto opposite (D35344). Turner has roughly outlined the formations of the terrain at the top of the cliffs, perhaps also suggesting a church spire in the distance in the first two drawings. Above the cliff sketches are rather indistinct pencil marks, possibly separate landscapes or continuations from the sketches of Walmer Castle on the opposite page. Turner has inscribed what appears to be the word ‘Castle’ in pencil towards the middle and close to the gutter of the page.
