The pencil work is by Girtin. This was copied from a sketch or watercolour, perhaps by John Robert Cozens (1752–1797). The round towers at the entrance to Tivoli, seen in the extreme top left of this subject, appear in drawings in the first ‘Monro School’ album (Tate D36453, D36454; Turner Bequest CCCLXXIII 40, 41).
Technical notes:
The sheet is discoloured from prolonged exposure.
