As Finberg surmised, this drawing is for the figure of Don Quixote in Turner’s grey wash drawing of Don Quixote and the Enchanted Barque (illustrating Book II, chapter 29 of Cervantes’ novel) which, with a study for the composition, is in a private collection.1 See also verso (D40230).
