Turner Bequest X A, B
These two drawings represent écorché (flayed) figures. Although Finberg suggested that they were made after Turner had worked from the Antique (that is, c.1792) they seem to be earlier. The better of them (D00124) is similar in quality to the least accomplished (and therefore earliest?) of the Antique studies in the Bequest (Tate D00070; Turner Bequest V R), while the sketch on the verso (D40224) is datable about 1791. For other écorché studies by Turner, see the entry for D00124.
