The identification is due to Ian Warrell. The distinctive use here of blocks of blue wash to ‘enact’ the construction of the masonry is to be found also in the view of a church tower (Tate D00185; Turner Bequest XVII J).

Washed with a grey tone; stained; inscribed in a modern hand ‘116’; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram.
