The subject is a Romanesque tower still standing, in St Leonard’s Street, on the eastern edge of the present village of West Malling. Another view at West Malling is on the recto of this sheet (D00184; Turner Bequest XVII I); see comments there on the card support. Edwin Fagg was a member of staff at the British Museum.
