Traquair House near Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders is seen here from the north-east.1 This is one of two studies of the house, with the other, on folio 17 verso (D26127), depicting the opposite view. Although the sketch is fairly quick, it is accurate and Turner has included all of the windows and chimneys, as well as the two flanking pavilions. He has also drawn a separate study of the gable and chimney of the northern wing to the top right of the main sketch. Beneath is a separate sketch of the distant hills behind the house.
For more information about the context of Turner visit to Traquair, see folio 17 verso.
