This is one of the ten sketches that Turner made of Neidpath Castle near Peebles; see folio 5 (D26103) for references. It is the first of six sketches from the north showing the tower house with service buildings and the gateway to the left; see also folios 6 verso–7 verso, 8 verso–9 (D26106–D26108, D26110–D26111).
