Ardtornish Point with Ardtornish Castle is seen here from the Sound of Mull to the east. Travelling down the Sound of Mull from Tobermory to Oban, Turner made a series of sketches of Ardtornish Castle as he steamed by (see folio 51; D26480 for references). Although the castle is small and fairly indistinct in this sketch, Ardtornish Point is more clearly drawn than in any other study. The promontory is seen in the distance in a sketch on folio 55 (D26848).
