This study of a pianist is annotated with various colour notations and has been squared-up with red ink for transfer to canvas. Wendy Baron notes that this drawing most probably forms part of a series of sketches that Sickert undertook towards the end of 1922, and the location is most likely a music hall in the East End. The drawing is referenced in Wendy Baron, Sickert: Paintings and Drawings, New Haven and London 2006, no.587.2.
