Over the years Walter Sickert painted and drew the church of St Jacques in Dieppe many times from a variety of viewpoints, as in Dieppe, Study No.2; Façade of St Jacques c.1899 (Tate N05094) and La Rue Pecquet, Dieppe c.1906–10 (TGA 8120/3/13). Wendy Baron notes the particular similarities between this sketch and a painting of the church from c.1900 (private collection). See Wendy Baron, Sickert: Paintings and Drawings, New Haven and London 2006, no.117.6 and Wendy Baron, Sickert, London 1973, no.116, pl.82.
