Turner drew a view of the gateway from the other side in the Smaller South Wales sketchbook (Tate D00466; Turner Bequest XXV 5). A finished watercolour of this subject is in the collection of the Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight.1 Note the figure of an artist drawing in the right foreground, with other figures grouped nearby.
The drawing was made with the page turned horizontally.
