The principal drawing running horizontally across the page depicts Zell, with the eighteenth-century Church of St Peter and St Paul at the banks of the Moselle. The tower to the right of the church in the middle distance is likely the ‘Bachturm’ which formed part of Zell’s fortified walls. At the far right are two small sketches: one of roughly rendered buildings and the other a squared-off composition depicting a town and inscribed with what appears to read ‘Krimerl’.
With the sketchbook orientated in accordance with the foliation, Turner has continued the drawings of Kaimt, St Aldegund, Neef and Bremm from the folio opposite (Tate D28377; Turner Bequest CCXC 14) onto this page. The tower at the top right probably depicts the Parish Church of Kaimt, a community on the opposite side of the Moselle from Zell. The Church of St James the Greater (Pfarrkirche St Jakobus Maior) possesses a late Romanesque tower with Baroque portal. At the bottom right is part of the sketch of Bremm on the opposite folio.
