There are two variant views, made with the page turned horizontally and inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation. They show Primolano below, looking west along this narrow, rugged part of the Valsugana section of the Brenta Valley, over the spire of its small church to the dramatic cliff beyond; compare folio 14 verso (D31624). The viewpoints are along the hillside road descending by a series of hairpin bends, known as the ‘Scala’ or ‘Scale’. There are other elevated views on the next few pages, up to folio 16 verso (D31623–D31628); see also folio 21 recto (D31637).
