The few slight pencil lines here record the view from Chatillon, Val d’Aosta, looking from the upper bridge across the lower bridge to the Castle of Ussel, (inscribed ‘Oussel’) on an eminence opposite. Turner sketched similar subjects in this sketchbook (D29220, D29268, D29269, D29313; D29314; Turner Bequest CCXCIV 4a, 30, 30a 54a, 55).
