The drawing was made with the page turned horizontally. Although apparently only tenuously linked, this and the view of Edinburgh Castle on folio 17 verso opposite (D02833) are probably intended to be read one below the other, with the trees and bridge seen below the Rock. A similar two-tiered view occurs on folios 20 verso–21 recto (D02838–D02839).
