Here Turner has made three swift sketches of sailing boats on the Moselle, surrounded by the precipitous cliffs of the river valley. In the distance, the tower of a castle can be seen in each view; this may be the Burg Coraidelstein, which is recorded on the following folio (Tate D28294; Turner Bequest CCLXXXIX 2a).
