These sketches show coastline or islands in Denmark. Over four hundred islands comprise the Danish archipelago, some of which Turner would have seen as he sailed from Kiel in Germany to Copenhagen. The inscription ‘Sleger’ may well refer to Stege, the largest town on the island of Møn (see Tate D30830–D30832; Turner Bequest CCCV 5a–6a).
