The work is mounted with the album page turned vertically. It is after a drawing by John Robert Cozens (1752–1797), executed for Richard Payne Knight and now in the British Museum, London (1900–4–11–32, as ‘View on the Lint (?)’).1

Bell and Girtin 1935, pp.33–4 no.40.
Verso:
Blank (laid down); the inscription (probably by Thomas Girtin in pencil) noted by Finberg and transcribed as the work’s title, ‘Near the Pantin Bruck in the Canton of Glarus’, is no longer apparent. The verso of the album leaf is inscribed by R.N. Wornum in pencil ‘9 out | R.N.W.’ centre right. This refers to the drawing mounted on the opposite page, 9 recto (D36486), which was reinstated, probably erroneously.
