The subject is close to that of two drawings in John Robert Cozens’s (1752–1797) Beckford Sketchbook I, pp.30 and 31, titled ‘Near Terracina’ and ‘Part of Terracina’ and dated 5 July 1782 (Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, D1975.4.31, 1975.4.32).1
Another ‘Monro School’ view at Terracina is in the companion Monro album (Tate D36472; Turner Bequest CCCLXXIII 59). A Beaumont tracing after Cozens of the same scene is no.77(B) (Yale Center for British Art, New Haven).
