Finberg thought this a Lake District subject, calling it ‘Near Great Gable (?)’.1 He listed a second drawing with identical title, dimensions and watermark as Turner Bequest LX a E.2 That sheet has been missing for many years (although it was initially allocated Tate accession number D03646), and may have been lost in the Tate Gallery flood of 1928; it was presumably related to the present view.
