With the page turned vertically, the top view is along the Shropshire Union Canal cutting at Chester, with the Bridge of Sighs and Northgate Bridge below the cupola of the Bluecoat School on Northgate, looking east. Underneath is another view of the bridges, seen from the opposite direction. There is another view on folio 47 recto (D22237), under which the subject is discussed; the bridges also appear in the distance on the verso of the present leaf (D22262).
