From a vantage point on Botersloot Street, here Turner depicts Rotterdam’s old Town Hall or Stadhuis at left. Now demolished, the old Stadhuis is pictured with a neo-classical pediment above its entrance and a cupola. The tower of St Lawrence’s Church is outlined in the distance at right.

Inscribed in red ink by Ruskin ‘11’ and stamped in black ‘CCCXXI–11’, bottom right.
