These slight sketches show the coastline at Goeree, an island in South Holland which gives onto the North Sea. The sketch inscribed ‘Goree’ shows the Toren van Goedereede, the tower of St Catharina’s Church, and the stone beacon. The sketch rendered inversely to it is the same view, drawn from a greater distance, with a merchantman outward bound.
