The city of Castellammare di Stabia (previously known as Castellamare or Castel a Mare) on the Sorrentine peninsula, derives its name from the ninth-century castle which stands on the slopes of Monte Faito, overlooking the Gulf of Naples. This sketch depicts the view looking east along the coast with the castle on the right. For further sketches see folio 40 (D15813).
