This view of Stuttgart was taken from Karlsplatz and shows the Altes Schloss or Old Castle at centre with the two towers of the Stiftskirche at left. The Altes Schloss was originally the residence of the Dukes and Kings of Württemberg; it stands adjacent to the Nueues Schloss or New Castle, a baroque palace built in the eighteenth century as its replacement.
