Joseph Mallord William Turner 1775–1851

Study of the Top of Aberdulais Fall, Vale of Neath 1795

Turner Bequest XXVI 7
Pencil on white wove paper, 264 x 203 mm

The identification is due to Elis Jenkins. In the itinerary written out for Turner at the beginning of this book the ‘Rocks & Water fall’ at Aberdulais were ‘well worth attention’ (D40554), and Turner made several notes of them in this book; see folios 9 recto–12 recto (D00561–D00564). He probably referred to them when painting his watercolour of Aberdulais Mill; see folio 6 recto (D00558).
Verso:
Blank; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram.
