There are other studies of foliage, showing horse chestnut and laurel leaves, on the verso of this leaf (D03718) and folio 6 verso (D03719; Turner Bequest LXI 63v).
Technical notes:
The page is discoloured from exposure during the prolonged exhibition of the verso (D03718). This and the next leaf, folio 6 (D03720, D03719; Turner Bequest LXI 63, 63v), were noted by Finberg in 1909 as ‘loose pages’;1 he suggested that they had been ‘cut out’ from this point in the book,2 where they have subsequently been rebound.
