The slight profile of a skyline towards the top of the page may be that of St Anne’s Hill, near Chertsey in Surrey, from the east across the Thames Valley, although the subject and viewpoint are unconfirmed. Compare the etching of about 1890 of the hill showing a similar profile from the Surrey Landscapes series by Percy Robertson (1869–1934). For likely views from the hill, see under folio 4 recto (D20563), and for Turner’s drawings of Charles James Fox’s villa there, see the sketchbook’s Introduction.
