These cursory sketches depict country girls in local dress and are annotated with inscriptions reading: ‘[?Lobster] [...] | [...] Green’ | ‘Green and Gold’ | ‘Quantity of Ribbons | Green or Red’. Turner has drawn across one of the moveable tabs of the perpetual calendar (Tate D41036) to render part of the dress of the principal figure. The sketches may have been taken at Copenhagen, which is depicted on the following folio (Tate D30824; Turner Bequest CCCV 2).
