These sketches show aspects of Rotterdam. The principal view appears to be of the Kolk, a port in the city centre, with the Korenbeurs or Corn Exchange and the tower of St Lawrence’s Church in the background behind it (see Tate D32448; Turner Bequest CCCXXI 3). The separate small sketch at top right was likely taken at a city harbour too, and may show St Lawrence’s or St Dominicus Church.
