With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with studies of generously spaced urban architecture and tree-lined road. A similar scene runs up the right-hand edge of the page. A note on the bottom edge of the page locates the scene at the settlement of Rambouillet, located some thirty miles south-west of Paris. Turner made several sketches of Rambouillet’s local chateau in the present volume; a list of these is provided in the sketchbook Introduction.
