Finberg thought that this was a view of part of Hereford Cathedral; the present identification is due to C.F. Bell. Stylistically the drawing perhaps belongs with the view of Corpus Christi College and Merton Tower (Tate D00116; Turner Bequest VIII B), though in its fluency it already possesses some of the characteristics of the ‘new’ 1792 manner.
