Here Turner has drawn over light pencil sketches of fortifications at Luxembourg (possibly the castle on the Rocher du Bock) with an array of almost indecipherable markings in darker, blunt pencil. The handling is abbreviated, angular, jagged and in some parts comprised of rather haphazard repeated forms such as curled, coiling or zigzagged lines.
