Here Turner depicts Ostend Pier, with moored boats and wheeled carts or bathing machines on the beach. A lighthouse can be seen at right; it appears again on Tate D29599; Turner Bequest CCXCVI 3, and in other later sketches such as Tate D30467, D30469, D30492, D30495D30495; Turner Bequest CCCIII 4a, 5a, 18, 19a–20.
