Here Turner depicts Ostend Pier, with moored boats and wheeled carts or bathing machines on the beach. A lighthouse can be seen at right; it appears again on Tate D29600; Turner Bequest CCXCVI 3a, and in other, later sketches such as Tate D30467, D30469, D30492, D30495– D30495; Turner Bequest CCCIII 4a, 5a, 18, 19a–20.
