Joseph Mallord William Turner Notes ?1832

Joseph Mallord William Turner 1775–1851
Folio 48 Verso:
Notes ?1832
D23610
Turner Bequest CCLII 48a
Pencil on white wove paper, 187 x 114 mm
Inscribed by Turner in pencil ‘T[...] 24 – per week, B and L | 18 Sampson Harbour, 21 Dr Irving 4 [...]y’

Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
With the sketchbook turned vertically, Turner wrote two lines of semi-decipherable notes across the top of this page. The second line includes the inscription ‘18 Sampson Harbour, 21 Dr Irving’ perhaps recording a physician’s address at the port of that name on the east coast of Guernsey. The top line, including the inscription ‘per week’, may be a short recipe for a cure, comparable with those noted on folio 92 verso (D23698; Turner Bequest CCLII 92v) and on the inside back cover (D41076).
