This rough sketch is continued on folio 46 recto opposite (D02541). This is one of a sequence of views of Norham in this sketchbook; see under folio 42 verso (D02534). Turner made a small watercolour view of the village street at Norham in the series of views on cards that he executed, probably for a projected Almanack, in the closing years of the eighteenth century (Tate D36625; Turner Bequest CCCLXXIX 1).
