An untraced design based on this drawing was engraved by G. Murray for the Pocket Print Magazine, 1 October 1795.1
The itinerary that Turner had copied out for him in the South Wales sketchbook mentions ‘Neath Castle’, ‘Neath Abbey’ and ‘very fine Views along the Shores’ (Tate D40554; Turner Bequest XXVI [recto of first flyleaf]). From Neath Turner made a detour up the Nedd river valley as far as Melincourt, where he drew the waterfall in his South Wales book (Tate D00560; Turner Bequest XXVI 8).
