Technical notes:
In his 1909 Inventory of the Turner Bequest, A.J. Finberg mistakenly catalogued this page as the folio’s verso, hence the suffix ‘a’ after its Finberg number.1 Both recto and verso were subsequently allocated with Tate ‘D’ numbers. The recto was formerly given the accession number ‘D27833’ but was reassigned with ‘D27834’ after the ‘D’ number for the verso was cancelled.

The verso bears chalk counterproof marks from the drawing on folio 38 recto (D27835; Turner Bequest CCLXXXII 38).
