The artist Jeremy Yates has provided the identification of this view,1 which shows the village of Llanllyfni, south of Penegroes on the road from Harlech to Caernarfon. It is confirmed by the next drawing, on folio 27 verso (D02036), which is another view in the vicinity of Penegroes. The church is that of St Rhedyw, one of the oldest in Wales, which may have been Turner’s reason for stopping to make this rapid sketch.
