Stamped in black with Turner Bequest monogram above ‘CCLIX – 124’ below centre
This is the verso of Bridge of St-Cloud from Sèvres, a Wanderings by the Seine subject (D24689; Turner Bequest CCLIX 124). Turner’s gouache inscriptions on the backs of the series are not recorded in Finberg’s 1909 Inventory.1
Technical notes
There is a smeared mark in the same red gouache used for the inscription left of centre, and some further staining of black gouache at the left edge and centre, with brownish streaks towards the right edge.
