Drawn with the page turned horizontally, Cecilia Powell recognised this as a view of St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna1 from the north-east. Such a prospect is now precluded by later buildings. The viewpoint is possibly in the vicinity of the Danube Canal near the site of the later Marienbrücke, down Rotenturmstrasse. For other views of the city, see under folio 40 recto (D30076).2
