With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with a study of a wooded landscape with grand buildings in the middle distance. Although this drawing is too cursory to identify a definite location, the sketches in this volume feature views of several palaces and gardens in the Île-de-France region around Paris. A list of these studies is provided in the sketchbook Introduction for comparison.
