These sketches show Schönbühel Castle, situated on a cliff overlooking the Danube near Melk (see Tate D30270–D30272; Turner Bequest CCC 72–73). The former Servite monastery at Schönbühel is visible behind and slightly to the left of the Castle in all four views. ‘M[...] B[...]’ is inscribed at top right, ‘Rocks’ is inscribed at left with ‘Reisenfels’ at bottom right.
