Here Turner has produced a rough and abbreviated line drawing of the profile of the Fort Charlemont atop Givet’s rocky heights, with the Tour Victoire at its foot. The Church of Saint-Hilaire is pictured too, Turner suggesting the spherical decorative element of its spire. The church is rendered more clearly in a sketch on folio 5 recto (Tate D28176; Turner Bequest CCLXXXVIII 5 a).
