In this rough linear profile of Givet, Turner depicts the fortress of Charlemont crowning the mount with an cursory view of the town beyond. This drawing and other sketches of Givet in this book (Tate D28170–D28185; Turner Bequest CCLXXXVIII 2a–10) formed the basis of a gouache and watercolour drawing on blue paper (private collection).1
