The upper view is rendered in accordance with the foliation and shows Dresden’s Brühl Terrace, overlooking the River Elbe (see Tate D30296–D30303, D30896–D30900, D31024–D31042; Turner Bequest CCCI 1–7, CCCVI 6a–9, CCCVII 3–12).
The other sketches are produced with the book turned horizontally and depict aspects of Copenhagen. At centre is the equestrian statue of King Frederik V (1723–66), situated in the Amalienborg Palace courtyard. Turner has inscribed ‘[?Nymph] of Lippe | Amalie | Palazzo’ at bottom right, above a section of a female nude.
