A river valley with a town at centre is depicted in the sketch inscribed ‘Road Valem[...]see’. This may be a distant view of Vöcklabruck near Attersee Lake, with the Schöndorfer Kirche at centre and Wagrain Castle in the distance at right. See also Tate D31456, D31462; Turner Bequest CCCXI 21, 24.
At rear is part of a study of St Stephen’s Cathedral, Vienna, continued from the folio opposite (Tate D31452; Turner Bequest CCCXI 19). ‘Vol[...]’ is inscribed.
